First thing I did in the morning was attend the interview I had with the local Science Institution. While I nailed it, they gave me an entrance level position: Test Subject.
I took a class on gardening – ew – and handiness, I spent my afternoon fiddling with a chemistry set.
At, maybe, nine o’clock, after creating another potion, I realized something.
I had no friends.
Hell, the only people I knew were from Smuggs, which, in retrospect, weren’t friends at all.
So I took a taxi over to Central Park, hoping to find some one.
Once I arrived, I saw someone sitting all alone. Figuring that it would be better to talk to someone alone rather than having people around, I made my way over to him and smiled.
“Hi,”
He looked up at me, looking a little irritated. I noticed his lab coat.
“Do you work at the Landgraab Science Facility?” He chuckled a bit before standing up.
“Nah, but I’m a Gene Therapist at the Hospital. My wife’s family actually owns the Science Facility, though.”
I nervously chuckled. While I was hoping to just meet a co-worker…I got the freaking owner instead.
“Oh! Well it’s very nice to meet you, sir. I’m Viper Fortune, new worker at the facility.”
He stuck out his hand. “Geoffrey Landgraab!” He grinned before looking at his watch. “Whoops, gotta go. The wife wanted me home by ten. See ya later, Viper!” He hurried over to his car before driving away.
I shuddered. Were all people like him here?! He was strange.
Seeing that the park was deserted, I took a taxi back home and went to bed.
Once I woke up, I immediately went to my Chemistry set. But before I could even get properly dressed, I got a phone call. Geoffrey.
…Really? Who calls someone at seven in the morning on a Saturday?
I wasn’t listening half the time he was talking about whatever, until he started talking about his school days at Smuggs. That was when I actually replied to him, and we actually talked for a good half hour. Well, until Mrs. Langraab started yelling about something and he excused himself.
After that, I went to the library. After all, the facility stressed the fact that I needed to be able to grow plants successfully to get a promotion. And since I refused to grow a garden, I guessed reading up on gardening would be a sufficient replacement.
And reading wasn’t that bad…except for the fact that some random lady sat right next to me.
As soon as I placed the gardening book back on the shelf, my phone rang. The librarian glared at me, but I still answered it, quietly.
“Hello?” I whispered. The voice on the other line was loud, and a voice I didn’t recognize. It proceeded to ask me if I could assist the local business office with some bills those currently on staff couldn’t understand. At first I began to refuse, but they told me that those currently on staff were not only new at their positions, but lacked intelligence. And I would be paid in cash. I gave in.
“Well, I certainly have intelligence…” I trailed off, smirking. Not only did I need the money…but hey, why not use my brains to help out those less fortunate?
A thousand simoleons later, I received another phone call…but this one was from my mom. I declined. It was a good day, I didn’t need her to ruin it. So I just headed back to my house, so I could dedicate the rest of my day to science.
And when I got home, I had the creepiest feeling of being watched…
